Learning a new language is tough. Learning a new language with a time constraint can feel near impossible.

Whatever your reason for needing to learn Spanish quickly, don’t worry. It can be done. You’ll just need to cut a few corners.

There are many reasons why you may want to learn Spanish quickly, perhaps you have an impending trip to a Spanish speaking country, a Spanish wedding, or maybe you have a job opportunity that requires a degree of competence in the Spanish Language.

Whatever the reason these tips may well help you learn Spanish a little bit quicker.

 1. Learn the basics

It goes without saying that every language has a basic level and Spanish is no different, if you concentrate of the simple things and get them off to perfection everything else you learn will build on top of it.

You'll need to get a strong understanding of:

  1. Pronunciation
  2. Gendered nouns
  3. Basic verb conjugation

 2. Concentrate on conversational Spanish

Forget about learning grammar, reading and writing for the time being.

Communication is the goal to learning any language.

You may start by using broken Spanish, but your spoken Spanish can become fluent very quickly, so long as you don't worry about the patchiness of your spoken Spanish. More than anything, don't let embarrassment keep you from practicing your Spanish.

So instead of focusing on lists of vocabulary, focus on phrases. It doesn't matter what "Tengo hambre" literally means. You just need to know that the phrase means that someone is hungry.

 3. Study consistently

Make time everyday to study and practice Spanish.

I've even heard english speaking workmates practicing their Spanish in the mens’ room behind locked doors. It's not the ideal place to learn, but grab every opportunity to practice.

You will see quite amazing results within a month with continuous practice.

4. Get a Spanish speaking friend or a fellow student to help you.

Find a Spanish speaker who is willing to partner with you. Practicing speaking with someone who is as patient as you, because they're at the same level, will help you to improve by leaps and bounds.

If you don't know of anyone try and find a Spanish speaker who would help you out via a skype link or something similar, just as long as you are practicing and constantly using Spanish you'll be fine.

Personally, I like to use iTalki for myself and my son. I can find native Spanish speakers for either lessons or conversation practice, at a very affordable rate. (As low as $2 for 30 minutes.)
